Biography
Craig was born in Regina Saskatchewan in 1971 and grew up in Kamloops British Columbia and moved to Ottawa Ontario in the 1990’s .
Art has always been appreciated and consumed by Craig through his life. Comic books, novels, and pop culture media such as music, television and movies were a constant fixture while growing up.
In the 1990’s Craig made zines, inspired by underground comics and played in punk bands in Ottawa’s D.I.Y scene.
Being able to visit the National Gallery of Canada regularly was transformative.
Transitioning to the Prairies in the 2000’s, after completing his Bachelors in Philosophy, Craig gravitated to General Insurance, much like his favorite author Franz Kafka, who was employed with the Workers’ Accident Insurance Institute in Bohemia for 14 years.
Craig’s art activity at that time included painting, sketchbooking, and journaling.
In 2018, Craig sought a break and pursued formal education at the Alberta University of the Arts. The time there was fruitful and he gained techniques, appreciation of art history, and being part of a local artist community.
Craig had to take a hiatus from school in 2022 and returned to General Insurance to support his art practice. He has participated in local art shows at the Loft 112, The Town of Okotoks, and was recognized by the Esker Foundation as part of their In Common series. Craig’s work has been shown at the 500 Collective and at the Christine Klassen Gallery in Calgary, Alberta. Craig is an active member of the Alberta Printmakers. Craig’s collaborators as part of the Kismet Collective are Roxann Yuen and Lacey Grey.
